The name of the 19-year-old woman who died at Queen’s Sunday morning after sustaining injuries in a one-car crash is Jessie Monroe of Kileaua, county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said today.
A female juvenile who was also an occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries. She was treated at Wilcox Memorial Hospital and released to her parents, a county news release states.
The two were northbound on Kuhio Highway near the north end of Aleka Loop at around 1:15 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, went off the highway and crashed into a boulder on the makai side of the road, according to a preliminary report.
Following the crash, Kuhio Highway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours, and traffic was re-routed through Aleka Loop.
The highway was reopened at around 4:45 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
