LIHU‘E — Alaska Airlines announced on Friday two new nonstop flights to Lihu‘e from San Jose and Oakland, Calif., beginning in March, according to a press release.
Flights between Lihu‘e and San Jose will consist of two arrivals and two departures three days per week commencing March 27. Flights between Lihu‘e and Oakland will include two arrivals and two departures four days per week beginning March 28.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft will have the ability to accommodate 16 first-class passengers and 141 individuals in the main cabin, the press release says.
“We are hoping it will improve our visitor arrivals and give more diversity to those wishing to vacation on Kaua‘i,” said Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau Executive Director Sue Kanoho, adding she is “pleased to receive the news.
“California continues to be one of our strongest major-market areas for Kaua‘i,” she said.
Fares will start at $179 each way, plus taxes and fees, for tickets purchased by July 9 for travel conducted by May 17, 2011, according to the press release.
Alaska Airlines currently operates flights from San Jose and Oakland to Kahului, Maui, and Kona on the Big Island. New flights were also added between Sacramento and Kahului in March of this year.
“The Hawaiian islands are among the most popular leisure destinations that Alaska Airlines serves,” said Alaska Airline’s Vice President of Marketing Joe Sprague in the press release.
“This winter we will have more than 100 flights a week to the four major islands from the U.S. West Coast.”
The airline’s “has been a great partner,” Kanoho said.
