LIHU‘E — “Green Jobs, Green Economy” will be the theme of Kaua‘i Planning & Action Alliance’s annual meeting from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, at the Kaua‘i Community College OCET Building, Room 106 C&D. Registration and refreshments begin at 2:30 p.m., a news release states.
Following a short membership meeting, the program will feature George Costa, director of the county Office of Economic Development, discussing “Green Jobs and Kaua‘i’s Economy” and state Rep. Mina Morita, D-14th District, presenting “Green Means We’re in the Black.”
“With the emergence of more locally grown foods, expanded recycling programs, a push to develop alternatives to fossil fuel and utilization of other sustainable practices, there is an opportunity to create new ‘green’ jobs on Kaua‘i,” said Diane Zachary, KPAA president and CEO.
“Private sector action will need to be supported by government policies at every level.”
An overview of KPAA programs, including the Kalalau Trail restoration project, will also be on the agenda.
