Diane Chang
Diane Yin Tai Chang of Koloa died June 1, 2010, at her home at age 81. Born on April 1, 1929, in Canton, China, she was a retired owner of Chang’s Bus Inc. and Chang’s Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter “Ah-Choy” Chang; parents Young and Kui-Lan Ling; sister Violet Ling; and Brother Henry Ling.
She is survived by her son David Chang; daughter Laura (Brian) Nagao; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Mobel Loo and Myra Ching; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held. Family requests that no koden be sent.

Maria Sagucio
Maria P. Sagucio of Hanapepe died May 30, 2010, at her home at age 101. She was born on Jan. 3, 1909, in the Philippines.
She is survived by her daughters Alejandrea Mabini and Tina (Sammy) Pedro; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at 8 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Friday, June 11, at ‘Ele‘ele Sacred Hearts Church. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Tintje Batuwael
Tintje “Kho Lie Ting” Batuwael of Lihu‘e died June 4, 2010, at Hawai‘i Medical Center-East in Honolulu at age 45. Born on July 9, 1964, in Namlea, Indonesia, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband Sufiyanto “Stefy” Tjhin; son Steven Kurniawan of Lihu‘e; daughter Evelyne Kurniawati Lihu‘e; brothers Alexander Batuwael, Samuel Khomiksaris and Karel Batuwael all of Ambon, Indonesia; and sister Yohana Kho of Ambon, Indonesia.
Visitation at 2 p.m., services at 3 p.m., on Saturday, June 12, at Lihu‘e Christian Church. Burial will follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Nu‘uanu Memorial Park and Mortuary, and Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Iwao Sasaki
Iwao “Charlie” Sasaki of Lihu‘e died June 1, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 93. Born on Feb. 3, 1917, in Lihu‘e, he was a clerk with Lihu‘e Plantation Office.
He is survived by his wife Misao Sasaki; daughter Dale (Alan) Masumura of Lihu‘e; grandchildren Joni (Galen) Tominaga and Emmi Masumura both of Lihu‘e; great-granddaughter Samantha Tominaga; sister-in-law Christina Sasaki of Honolulu; nieces and nephews.
Services were private. Family requests that no koden be sent.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Kazue Kawamoto
Kazue “Kachan” Kawamoto, 88, died June 3, 2010 at her home in Lihu‘e with her children in attendance. She was a barber for 58 years and the proprietor of Kawamoto Barber Shop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sadao Kawamoto, and daughter, Susan Kawamoto.
She is survived by her daughter Ann (James Martin) Kawamoto; sons, Wesley Kawamoto and Miles (Karene) Kawamoto; grandson, Reid Kawamoto; sister, Sueko (Harris) Takiguchi and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Lihu‘e Christian Church, with visitation at 3:30 p.m. and services celebrated at 4:30 p.m.
Casual attire suggested and family graciously declines monetary gifts (koden).

Adam Harju
Adam Harju of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, died April 26, 2010. He was born on June 23, 1969, and lived on Kaua‘i from 2005 to 2008 while he was the managing editor for The Garden Island newspaper.
The family is having a memorial service at 11 a.m., on June 12, in San Diego, where they will be scattering his ashes at one of his surf spots.
Adam’s friends on Kaua‘i will be having a simple memorial at the same time at Hanalei Pier, another of his favorite surf spots.

Jeffrey Stark
Jeffrey Alan Stark of ‘Oma‘o died May 9, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 51. Born on Aug. 5, 1958, he was a Journeyman Lead Plumber at PMRF, and a professor at Kaua‘i Community College.
He is survived by his parents Carroll and Betty Stark, and Pauline “Polly” (Art) Emery; mother-in-law Maggie Tremaine; wife Rochelle Ballesteros-Stark; sons Brendson Stark, Bradley Stark, Christopher Sargent and Ryan Kai Zimmerman; daughter Nicole Stark; stepdaughter Keakalina Lindsay; brothers Adam Emery and family, and Art Emery Jr.; sisters Deanna Stark, Marjie Buck and Family, Arlene McMeekin and Family, and Donna Emery.
Viewing from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Old Koloa Church, and at noon at Kukui‘ula Harbor, on Saturday, June 12. Services from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. No burial; ashes will be scattered at Kukui‘ula Harbor.

Theresa “Terry” R. Fernandes of Wailua Houselots died May 29, 2010, at Mahelona Hospital at age 91. Born on Feb. 17, 1919, in Kapa‘a, she was retired from Woolworth’s Lihu‘e as the personnel manager and buyer.
She was preceded in death by her son Paul Fernandes.
She is survived by her husband George B. Fernandes; sons George (Marcia) Fernandes of Las Vegas, Michael (Alison) Fernandes of Wailua Houselots, and David (Imelda) Fernandes of Waipouli; daughter JoAnn Yamaguchi of Waipouli; grandchildren Levi Fernandes, Shawn (Melanie) Fernandes, Jocelyn (Chad) Burch, Shendon Yamaguchi, Leland Fernandes, Chelyn Yamaguchi and Danielle Fernandes; great-granddaughter Zoe Fernandes; brother John (Rocky) Rodrigues of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 9 a.m., Mass at 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 12, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens in Kapaia.

John Pavao Jr.
John Pavao Jr. of Wailua Houselots died June 2, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 55. Born on Oct. 5, 1954, in Lihu‘e, he retired as heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers Local 3.
He is survived by his wife Diane Pavao of Wailua Houselots; son Kaipo (Sara) Pavao of Wailua Houselots; daughter Wailana (Sam) Cantere of Moloa‘a; grandchildren Kela Pavao, Kapono Pavao and Tate Cantere; mother Barbara Jean Say of Wailua Houselots; grandmother Elizabeth Martin of Honolulu; brothers Pierre (Julie) Pavao of Kilauea, David (Janice) Pavao of Texas, William (Regina) Pavao of Kalaheo, Paul Say of Hanalei and Byron Say of Hanalei; sisters Keala (Dominic) Bartolini of Wailua and Jonelle (Sean) Jardin of Kalaheo.

Melvin Corpuz Sr.
Melvin Corpuz Sr. of ‘Ele‘ele died May 21, 2010, at his home at age 65. Born on Nov. 14, 1944, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired operator and truck driver at Koga Engineering and Construction, and a union member with Operating Engineers Local 3.
He was preceded in death by his father Dionicio Corpuz and brother Ronald Corpuz.
He is survived by his wife LaVerne Corpuz; sons Melvin Corpuz Jr. and Lance (Carl-lynn Keoho-Kaui) Corpuz; mother Lorencia Corpuz; granddaughter Zhara-Lei Corpuz; brothers Clarence (Sharon) Corpuz and Milton Corpuz; sisters Christine Pardua, Patricia (Thomas) Rivera and Paula (Harold) Rosa.
Visitation at 9 a.m., Mass at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 12, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Burial to follow at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.

Conception Lopez
Conception Medrano “Connie” Lopez of Lihu‘e passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 25, 2010, at the age of 75. Born in Hawai‘i on April 8, 1935, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by son Rogelio Viernes, brother Fred Medrano and twin great-granddaughters Gaylene and Daylene Ebinger.
She is survived by husband Richard R. Lopez, daughter Mary Lou (Gary Titus) Mindoro, son Danny (Kathleen) Viernes, sister Flora Domingsel, brother Angel Medrano, grandchildren Donavan, Destiney, Kaitlin, Kendra and Kian, and great-grandchildren Desley, Gezley, Dezlynn and Garett Jr., numerous nephews, nieces and hanai children.
Services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes will be private.

Edward Fountain Jr.
Edward Lanakila Fountain Jr. of ‘Ewa Beach, O‘ahu died May 14, 2010 in ‘Ewa Beach at the age of 45. Born on May 6, 1965 in Lihu‘e, he was an administrative officer at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward Lana Fountain.
He is survived by his wife Blanche; son Timothy; daughter Tiffany; mother Joyce Fountain of Lihu‘e; brother Steve (Linda) Fountain of Kalihiwai; sisters Alana Fountain of Fresno, Calif.; Wanda Fountain Moa of Honolulu; and Jade (Troy) Fountain-Tanigawa of Lihu‘e; two nieces and four nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010, visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 a.m. with services scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Lihu‘e United Church. A private burial will be held at a later time.
Casual attire is suggested. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

James Puni
James Kaleinani “Uncle Jimmy” Puni of Kapa‘a died May 31, 2010, at Samuel Mahelona Hospital at age 70. Born on March 20, 1940, in Honolulu, he was a heavy equipment operator for F.T. Opperman.
He was preceded in death by Jamie Ann (Bradford) Pikini.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Puni; son Bishop (Lauri) Puni Sr.; daughters Alexie Ann Puni and Mary Ann (Mele) Puni; hanai son Juan Lopez; hanai daughters Druscilla (Tim) Summers, Paulette (Luther) Yam, Mary Ann (Semon) Francisco and Dayna Lee (Timothy) Santiago; brother Norman Puni; sisters Yvonne (Haunani) De Canto, Aloma (Hauoli) Puni and Ava (Pomai) Kridler; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 14 hanai grandchildren.
Visitation at 8:30 a.m., service from 10:30 to 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 24, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center. Private burial will be held.

Pacita “Nani” Nievera Corpuz of Puhi died June 6, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 78. Born on February 1, 1932, in Santa Ana, Manila, Philippines, she retired as a field worker with Lihu‘e Sugar Plantation.
She was preceded in death by her husband Simplicio Corpuz; stepson George Corpuz; sisters Milagros Robles and Conchita Nievera; brothers Salvador Nievera and Alfredo Nievera.
She is survived by her children Edita “Didi” (John) Lung of Las Vegas, Nev., Calvin (Liberty) Corpuz of Puhi, Emeline “Rose” (Calvin) Lalin of Wailua Homesteads, Evelyn (Donald) Gonsalves of Lihu‘e and Julie (Michael) Broyles of Hanapepe; stepchildren Jay (Bennie) Dela Cruz of Seal Beach, Calif., Josephine (Tony) Geraldo of O‘ahu, Larry (Estrella) Corpuz of Castle Rock, Colo., and Peter (Marjie) Corpuz of Sequoia, Calif.; sisters Cecilia (Jr.) Anchoris and Remidios (Roger) Remenente; brother Romi (Rose) Nievera all of Alberta, Canada; 30 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
