Elena Suniga
Elena Ansagay Suniga of Kapa‘a died May 21, 2010, at Garden Isle Health Care at age 83. Born on Sept. 21, 1926, in Pu‘unene, Maui, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Constancio Suniga Sr.
She is survived by her sons Constancio (Corazon) Suniga Jr. of Kapa‘a, Rudy (Liza) Suniga of Wailua Houselots, Dioncio (Lisa) Suniga of Lihu‘e, Romeo (Clarita) Suniga of Hanama‘ulu and Billy (Barbara) Suniga of Alaska; daughters Betty (Rolly) Fernandez of Kapa‘a, Lilia (Rico) Cabaya of Hilo and Tess (Rolly) Ortal of O‘ahu; sister Juanita Miguel of Hilo; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 8 a.m., services celebrated at 10 a.m., on Thursday, June 10, at the Lihu‘e Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Peter Pi‘ilani Sr.
Peter Kepano Pi‘ilani Sr. of Princeville died May 31, 2010, at his home at age 78. Born on Oct. 4, 1931, in Hana, Maui, he retired as a heavy-equipment operator and bass player for Na Leo ‘O Wainiha.
He is survived by caregivers Honey Girl Ho‘omanawanui and James Hawkins; children Peter (Rebecca) Pi‘ilani of Anchorage, Alaska, Bobbin (Joseph) Poaha of Wai‘anae, O‘ahu, Rueben (Sharon) Pi‘ilani of Salem, Ill., Emerald Maka of Sidney, Ohio, Michael (Francine) Gooman of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kaiser (Diane) Pi‘ilani of Wai‘anae, O‘ahu; sisters Ethel Goods of Kihei, Maui, and Cici of Honolulu; stepchildren Ulunani Ho‘omanawanui of Anahola, Honey Girl Ho‘omanawanui of Kilauea, Jane Kinzie of Anahola, Henry Pu‘ulei of Honolulu; adopted son Kaipoleimanu (Lei‘mana) Pi‘ilani; 53 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; hanai children James Hawkins, Bill and Laura Marston, Jay and Barbara Mahooney, Stanton and Inger Pa; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held in the near future.

Adam Harju
Adam Harju of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, died April 26, 2010. He was born on June 23, 1969, and lived on Kaua‘i from 2005 to 2008 while he was the managing editor for The Garden Island newspaper.
The family is having a memorial service at 11 a.m., on June 12, in San Diego, where they will be scattering his ashes at one of his favored surf spots.
His friends on Kaua‘i will be having a simple memorial at the same time at Hanalei pier, near another of his favorite surf spots.

Jeffrey Stark
Jeffrey Alan Stark of ‘Oma‘o died May 9, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 51. Born on Aug. 5, 1958, he was a journeyman lead plumber at the Pacific Missile Range Facility and a professor at Kaua‘i Community College.
He is survived by his wife Rochelle Ballesteros-Stark; sons Brendson Stark, Bradley Stark, Christopher Sargent and Ryan Kai Zimmerman; daughter Nicole Stark; stepdaughter Keakalina Lindsay; parents Carroll and Betty Stark, and Pauline “Polly” (Art) Emery; mother-in-law Maggie Tremaine; brothers Adam Emery and family and Art Emery Jr.; sisters Deanna Stark, Marjie Buck and family, Arlene McMeekin and family and Donna Emery.
Viewing from 9 a.m. to noon at the old Koloa Church, and at noon at Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor, on Saturday, June 12. Services from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. No burial. Ashes will be scattered at Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor.

Theresa Fernandes
Theresa R. “Terry” Fernandes of Wailua Houselots died May 29, 2010, at Mahelona Hospital at age 91. Born on Feb. 17, 1919, in Kapa‘a, she was retired from Woolworth’s Lihu‘e as personnel manager and buyer.
She was preceded in death by her son Paul Fernandes.
She is survived by her husband George B. Fernandes; sons George (Marcia) Fernandes of Las Vegas, Michael (Alison) Fernandes of Wailua Houselots, and David (Imelda) Fernandes of Waipouli; daughter JoAnn Yamaguchi of Waipouli; grandchildren Levi Fernandes, Shawn (Melanie) Fernandes, Jocelyn (Chad) Burch, Shendon Yamaguchi, Leland Fernandes, Chelyn Yamaguchi and Danielle Fernandes; great-granddaughter Zoe Fernandes; brother John (Rocky) Rodrigues of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 9 a.m., Mass at 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 12, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens in Kapaia.

Florencio Espinosa Sr.
Florencio “Larry” Espinosa Sr. of Wailua Houselots died at home on June 3, 2010 at the age of 89. He was born in Makaweli, Kaua‘i on Nov. 7, 1920 and retired as a truck-driver instructor with O‘ahu Sugar Co.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Espinosa; six children: Ronald (Joni) Henderson, Mercedes (Robert) Nuesca, Marla (Michael) Alonzo, Florencio (Jlyn) Espinosa Jr., Monica (William) Maycong and Floyd Espinosa; 16 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.

Kazue Kawamoto
Kazue “Kachan” Kawamoto, 88, died June 3, 2010 at her home in Lihu‘e with her children in attendance. She was a barber for 58 years and the proprietor of Kawamoto Barber Shop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sadao Kawamoto, and daughter, Susan Kawamoto.
She is survived by her daughter Ann (James Martin) Kawamoto; sons, Wesley Kawamoto and Miles (Karene) Kawamoto; grandson, Reid Kawamoto; sister, Sueko (Harris) Takiguchi and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Lihu‘e Christian Church, with visitation at 3:30 p.m. and services celebrated at 4:30 p.m.

Conception Lopez
Conception Medrano “Connie” Lopez of Lihu‘e passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 25, 2010, at the age of 75. Born in Hawai‘i on April 8, 1935, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by son Rogelio Viernes, brother Fred Medrano and twin great-granddaughters Gaylene and Daylene Ebinger.
She is survived by husband Richard R. Lopez, daughter Mary Lou (Gary Titus) Mindoro, son Danny (Kathleen) Viernes, sister Flora Domingsel, brother Angel Medrano, grandchildren Donavan, Destiney, Kaitlin, Kendra and Kian, and great-grandchildren Desley, Gezley, Dezlynn and Garett Jr., numerous nephews, nieces and hanai children.
Services will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes will be private.

Gerald Clerc
Gerald Roy Clerc of Kapa‘a died at home on June 1, 2010, at the age of 88. He was born in Michigan on May 12, 1922 and was a retired businessman.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Clerc; sons Jerry (Kathy) Clerc, Ron Clerc and Craig (Michele) LeClerc; daughter Shari (Rick) Talley; sister, Ardith Philip; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
