WAILUA — Joshua Quinlan netted two goals to lead Waimea to a 2-1 edge over the Raiders, clinching the Kaua‘i Soccer Association BU19 championships last week at the Weinberg Sports Field in Wailua.
Makoa Carreira netted the sole Raider goal in the effort.
On the other side of the field, Sanoe Taniguchi-Simbre picked up three goals, including the go-ahead boot in a shootout between the GIFC and Hi Impact in a playoff for the GU16 division.
Isabelle Curtis and Tyra Tandal netted goals to give GIFC an early lead, but missed opportunities and a Hi Impact comeback led by Taniguchi-Simbre deadlocked the match, 2-2, at the end of regulation to force the shootout, which was iced by Taniguchi-Simbre netting the ball on the final kick.
With the 3-2 win, Hi Impact advances to the championship of the bracket, meeting Ha‘aheo Kaua‘i in a noon showdown at Weinberg Fields, Sunday.
Sunday will also feature Gwen Tamura’s KSC-Na Anela going up against Cindy Crain’s Eastside Fusion for the title in the GU18 division starting at 2:30 p.m.
Last Saturday’s KSA playoffs at the North Vidinha fields sets the stage for this Saturday’s championship games, which will feature four games played inside the Vidinha Stadium arena.
In the Boys Under 8 division, Team Onipa‘a BU8, seeded No. 3, upset the No. 2 North Shore Bulldogs 1-0 to earn the right to meet top-seeded Westside Falcons BU8 in a 10:30 a.m. showdown at North Vidinha.
No. 3 Hawaiian Heat edged out the second-seeded Eastside Crew, 2-1, to earn the right to face top-seeded Blazing Angels in a 2 p.m. showdown inside Vidinha Stadium.
This will be the final weekend of the KSA spring season with champions being crowned in nine different KSA divisions from age brackets Under 8 through Under 18.
