Schuman Aviation earns FAA’s repair station status
Schuman Aviation Company, Ltd., parent company of Makani Kai Helicopters, Makani Kai Air Charters and Pacific Air Express, has been granted an Air Agency Certificate by the Federal Aviation Administration. In doing so, the company becomes just the second operator in the State of Hawai‘i to earn such a designation.
The 145 repair station status represents more than a year of hard work, documentation and FAA scrutiny to make certain that the facility and mechanics comply with all federal regulations regarding helicopter and fixed wing airframe and powerplant maintenance and repair. The FAA will now oversee where and how aircraft and engine parts are ordered; how those parts are tracked, kept in inventory, and ultimately used; overall record keeping; how mechanics are trained and other procedures.
Schuman Aviation Company, Ltd., established in 1996 and located at 130 Iolana Place at the Honolulu International Airport, operates Eurocopter AS-350 A-Stars, two Piper Chieftain twin-engine airplanes and three Cessna Grand Caravan turbine aircraft. The repair station also does contract work for Flight School Hawai‘i, Mauna Loa Helicopters, Offshore Helicopters, Juliet Charlie Leasing, the Robinson Helicopter dealership and a half-dozen other businesses.
