Registration will be accepted on the day of the Chad Owens All-Star football camp, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium.
Teddy Arroyo, the Kaua‘i coordinator for the camp, said the Kaua‘i youngsters will be fortunate to have the Hawai‘i Army National Guard Recruitment Division bringing down its football accessories as well as other premiums for the kids, including t-shirts, posters, bags and more.
The day will be punctuated with three performances from the Aloha Dance Studio girls starting at 1:30 p.m. These routines will be a preview of the group’s upcoming competition.
In addition to getting instruction from wide receiver Chad Owens, a former standout at UH, former NFL player and current member of the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, youngsters will be working with David Maeva, Eddie Klaneski, Jeremy Inferrera, Jody Tyrell, Nate Iloa and Darnell Arceneaux, a quarterback and the new coach for St. Louis High School.
Arroyo said a food booth and shave ice tents will also be available, with youngsters being able to get autographs during the lunch break.
A drug prevention speaker and other motivational speakers will be speaking to the youngsters during this time as well.
“This type of camp is the first for Kaua‘i,” Arroyo said. “A lot of these coaches are involved in other off-island camps which involve college coaches who are out there looking to recruit football players. This is a good learning experience for children who have played football.”
During the camp, Arroyo said young football players will be able to learn different types of techniques as well as sharpen basic skills.
Coaches are also welcome to attend, watch videos and learn new things in football.
“We welcome the community to come out and enjoy,” Arroyo said. “All players registering for the camp will receive a free camp t-shirt, lunch, and a Hawaiian-style dinner.”
Opening ceremonies start at 8:45 a.m. and registration will be taken at the door.
