HONOLULU — Hundreds of Kaua‘i residents lined up Sunday outside the War Memorial Convention Hall for a chance to be an extra in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
Some sported British sailing attire, some wore pirate-like bandanas, earrings and necklaces, and others just came in board shorts and tank tops. Some community members reportedly camped out the night before to secure a prime spot in line.
There was a similar scene the previous day on O‘ahu.
Officials say a line began forming outside the Waikiki Community Center as early as 2 a.m., with thousands eventually showing up to try for a chance to be selected in the Disney film.
Producers were looking for men to play pirates, sailors and stand-ins. Those selected are expected to be called back for auditions on Kaua‘i and O‘ahu at the end of this week.
The “Pirates” film is scheduled to be shot on Kaua‘i and O‘ahu this summer, finishing some time in August. The movie is slated for release in summer 2011.
