LIHU‘E — A 23-year-old ‘Ele‘ele woman was airlifted from Koke‘e Friday afternoon after injuring her right ankle while hiking Nualolo Trail, a county press release states.
She was taken to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital for treatment.
She had been hiking with three other women and was near the end of the 3.75-mile trail when the incident occurred.
One of the women hiked out and called 911 while the others stayed with the injured hiker.
Three rescue specialists from the Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Lihu‘e station and Air-1 responded.
The crew picked up the injured hiker and brought her to Waimea Canyon Park, where an awaiting American Medical Response ambulance transported her to KVMH.
