Tire Warehouse Kaua‘i turns 35
Sharron, George and Laurie Weber celebrated the 35th anniversary of their business, Tire Warehouse Kaua‘i.
The business has reportedly grown steadily since its inception, according to a press release. Tire Warehouse Kaua‘i is currently owned by Kaua‘i Enterprises where Sharron Weber serves as president, George Weber as vice president and Laurie as secretary.
HEMIC Insurance Managers agent for Texas insurance company

Hawai‘i Bankers Association participates in food drive for Hawai‘i Foodbank
The member banks of The Hawa‘ii Bankers Association once will once again collect points for canned food and monetary donations beginning April 19 through May 31, according to an announcement last week by Gary Fujitani, executive director of Hawai‘i Bankers Association. This is the third year that the HBA has participated in the drive.
The HBA members are part of a banking coalition within the food drive campaign, joining the other coalitions already in place. Members of the Hawai‘i Bankers Association coalition include: American Savings Bank, Bank of Hawai‘i, Bank of the Orient, Central Pacific Bank, Finance Factors, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawai‘i National Bank, HomeStreet Bank, Pacific Rim Bank and Territorial Savings Bank.
There will be approximately 285 bank branches collecting canned goods and monetary donations on behalf of the Hawai‘i Foodbank Contributions from the community are being counted on to supplement an ever-increasing need to feed Hawai‘i’s hungry.
Last year, the HBA member banks collected a total of 33,000 pounds of food and $35,500 in support of the Hawai‘i Foodbank.
Real estate company launches website
The Portal Tree, a software development company specializing in real estate referral networking, announced this week the launch of BestOfHawai‘iRealEstate.com, a website designed to give Hawai‘i customers free access to its proprietary Realtor matching technology. The announcement marks the first major phase of the system’s consumer release since its nationwide launch was announced by the company in January.
Century 21 announces $8,000 sweepstakes
Century 21 All Islands announces participation in the Century 21 “$8,000 List Your Home Sweepstakes.” From April 1 through June 30, every eligible home seller who lists their home with a Century 21 All Islands sales professional will be automatically entered for a chance to win $8,000.
Unlike the federal tax credit that requires eligible home buyers to have a written and binding contract on a home before Friday, the Century 21 “$8,000 List Your Home Sweepstakes” runs through the end of June 2010.

SBA recognizes 2 small contracting businesses
The U. S. Small Business Administration will honor two local small businesses that have excelled in the Federal Government Contracting arena at the 23rd Annual SBA Small Business Awards Luncheon on Friday. The two Hawai‘i based firms — Makai Ocean Engineering, Inc. and Referentia Systems — were nominated for their outstanding performance, innovative solutions, professionalism, cost effectiveness and on-time delivery by the federal agencies that contracted their services.
Makai Ocean Engineering was established in 1973, working with NELHA on ocean thermal energy design on some of their early systems. Today, the company pursues commercial OTEC projects with Lockheed Martin, provides innovative solutions and plans to most major submarine cable entities, and develops interactive 4D/5D visualization software. Makai employs 39 skilled engineers, software developers and support staff.
Referentia Systems, an SBA 8(a) certified firm, provides advanced technology solutions and information technology and services to federal agencies and to the Department of Defense with mentor Lockheed Martin, their nominator for the Sub Contractor of the Year category where the firm has been recognized with an Administrator’s Award of Excellence for the outstanding delivery of contracted services.
