LIHU‘E — A county press release states anyone interested in becoming an on-call/seasonal lifeguard with the Ocean Safety Bureau can apply between now and April 30 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Applications are being accepted at the Kaua‘i Fire Department headquarters in the Hale Pumehana Building at ‘Akahi and Hardy streets.
Applications are also available at all county lifeguard towers: Ke‘e, Ha‘ena, Anahola, Kealia, Lydgate, Po‘ipu, Salt Pond and Kekaha.
The duties of an on-call/seasonal lifeguard include: patrolling beach at an assigned tower; protecting lives; preventing accidents; enforcing safety regulations; assisting people in distress; and other related duties, the release states.
Pay is $12 an hour.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have valid motor-vehicle operator’s licenses and a high school diploma or a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, and be willing to work weekends and holidays.
In addition, applicants must meet health and physical-condition standards deemed necessary for an on-call/seasonal lifeguard position, and pass a physical-ability performance test scheduled for May 10.
