That win was just the first of a doubleheader as the Girls Under 8 Falcons went on to hand the Cougars a 9-0 defeat in their second outing at the North Vidinha fields.
The two wins improve the Falcons GU8 standings to 5-0 following the fifth week of play for the Kaua‘i Soccer Association. The Cougars are 0-4 in the Under 8 division.
Helping the Falcons in the first of their dual win, ToriAnn Ishikawa, Leiko Yamauchi and Kaira Kelekoma also netted goals.
Shayden Duldulao and Makoa Vanaman each netted goals for the Westside Falcons Boys Under 8 team in a 2-2 stalemate against Team Onipa‘a. Conor Hunt and Bryson Kapahu each scored for Onipa‘a in the deadlock.
The Westside Falcons BU8 are still in the lead in the BU8 division with a 2-0-2 record for eight points, just a point ahead of Team Onipa‘a BU8 at 2-1-1 and seven points.
Following five weeks of play, the Westside Falcons BU12 and GU8 squads hold leads in their respective divisions, both teams undefeated in league play.
The Extreme Strikers, posting a 9-0 win over the Lightning Strikers, Saturday, command the GU10 division, undefeated with a 4-0 standing.
Lokahi, shutting down Team Onipa‘a, 5-0, Saturday, is also undefeated with a 4-0 record in the GU12 while the GIFC-BU14 team rules that division, undefeated at 4-0.
The Blazing Angels Girls Under 14 squad, enjoying a 5-0 win over the Eastside Crew, Saturday, is undefeated in the GU14 division with a 3-0 record.
Jonathan Tangalin struck in the first half to give Waimea a 1-0 halftime lead over the Raiders in the Boys Under 17 division match played Sunday at the Weinberg Sports Park in Wailua adjacent to the Lydgate Park complex.
Devan Banasihan-Kenney and Stuart Pereira came back with second-half goals to ice the 3-1 edge over the Raiders, who were able to get one goal in the second half by Makoa Carreira.
The win improves Waimea’s record to 3-1-1 with the Raiders at 1-3-1.
Sanoe Taniguchi-Simbre placed two goals to lead Hi Impact in a GU16 match, Sunday. Ashin Matsuyama and Tara Silverman netted the goals for GIFC in its 2-2 stalemate in the first of a doubleheader. In the second match, Hi Impact took a 3-1 edge over the GIFC.
Hi Impact improves to 2-2-1, just below the league-leading Ha‘aheo Kaua‘i (3-1-0) which enjoyed a bye. GIFC falls to 1-3-1.
Action continues this weekend with Saturday’s games played at the North Vidinha fields starting at 8 a.m. Sunday games, until further notice, are played at the Weinberg Sports Park starting at noon.
