LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative is reminding members that the 2010 Board of Directors election will be drawing to a close March 27.
Casting a vote is important, as the board of directors “works to ensure members’ concerns are addressed promptly and fairly, to promote good member relations and to keep members informed on important issues,” said KIUC spokesperson Anne Barnes Friday.
Carol Bain, Pat Gegen, Carol Medeiros, Allan Smith and Jan TenBruggencate are in the race to fill three upcoming vacancies on the co-op’s Board of Directors in March.
This year, KIUC members have the opportunity to vote by phone or online because it “seemed like a good idea to try to increase participation,” Barnes said. Call center reps are available to assist anyone who is having trouble using either system for the first time at 246-4300, she said.
“Each and every member has a vote — a voice in how this business is run,” Barnes said. “KIUC is accountable to our members because we’re local. Our directors and employees live here. Our kids and grandkids go to the same schools. We have a stake in the economy and the well being of this community.”
