LIHU‘E — Parents and Children Together, a family service agency, is hosting a Bob Marley tribute and reggae concert fundraiser at 7:30 p.m. today at the Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center. The non-profit organization seeks to raise funds for their Kaua‘i Family Visitation Center, a program that provides a comfortable setting for non-custodial parents to visit with their children.
“We have a supervised visiting center (Kapa‘a) where people seeking a neutral place to allow an exchange of their children can meet,” said Kaua‘i Regional Director, Barbara Johnson.
Support Kaua‘i families while watching Bob Marley’s 1979 Santa Barbara concert film, “The Legend Live” and listening to contemporary Hawaiian music by Shilo Pa and Maui’s reggae ambassador, Marty Dread. Reviewers have called Marley’s Santa Barbara concert DVD, “a great live performance” and “beautifully filmed with great lighting and superb sound.”
Johnson said they chose Marley as the PACT spokesman because of a shared value.
“It’s Bob’s universal message of peace we were attracted to. Peace has to begin in families,” she said.
This statewide agency helps those who’ve been impacted by domestic violence or other criminal behavior and provides a secure place where children are protected from being caught in the “crossfire” between ex-partners. It has been in operation in Hawai‘i for 40 years and on Kaua‘i for six.
PACT is a leader in the design and delivery of a broad range of innovative social and educational services as well as an advocate for the needs of Hawai‘i’s most socio-economically challenged citizens, The Web Site states.
Specifically for the Family Visitation Center, the funds raised will be used to expand the center’s services and hire employees.
The show opens at 7:30 p.m. with Shilo Pa. Tickets are $15 at the door; $10, advance at the following outlets: North Shore: Papaya’s, Hanalei Surf Company, Hanalei Music’s Strings and Things, the Hawaiian Music Kiosk at Foodland, Healthy Hut, North Shore Pharmacy; Kapa‘a: Papaya’s, Larry’s Music, Kaua‘i Music and Sound; Lihu‘e: Borders Books and Music; Kalaheo, Scotty’s Music; Koloa, Progressive Expressions. Refreshments and food available for purchase between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. outside the center.
