You’re somewhere in the world, by the beach with your lover at sunset. You can hear Latin music far away. The waves roll gently and warm, wetting your feet. The sky becomes a mix of orange, red and yellow. And suddenly you wake up.
Don’t despair. You can always run to Neide’s Salsa and Samba, order a “Don Juan Sunset,” close your eyes and relive your dream. This powerful and tasty tequila drink will have you hearing and seeing things in a matter of minutes.
Bartender Jesse Howard launched last January the monthly Gallería nights at Neide’s, showcasing artists, jewelry makers and clothes designers. On Feb. 26, Gallería will feature a Stand Up paddle crafter, a glass blower, a T-shirt designer, a jewelry maker and some unique cigar-box ukuleles.
Jesse is also helping to organize a fashion show in the next Hanalei Art Walk, March 13, in which she said will have a “lounge vibe,” with couches and a DJ.
And in case you’re wondering, the busy redhead has a family, but you can still dream; just ask for the “Don Juan Sunset.”
Don Juan Sunset
1 ounce Don Julio tequila anejo
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
Splash of passion fruit/guava/OJ
Coarse salt
Lime wedge
Fertile imagination
Throw all liquids in a cocktail shaker full of ice, and shake it up to the rhythm of Latin music, two to the right, two to the left.
Dip the martini glass rim in the coarse salt and stick the lime wedge in it.
With a suave motion, pour the chilled drink into the glass and
dream on.
