LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Police Department investigators returned to Kalalau Valley Tuesday afternoon aboard Inter-Island Helicopters, said company owner and pilot Ken D’Attilio.
They were searching for identification and other possessions of the late Rodney Ahn, 58, said D’Attilio, who flew the officers in and remained with his helicopter at the Mahihi Flats landing site for the four hours the officers were in the valley.
Ahn apparently maintained several hidden campsites in the valley, said his brother, Nolan Ahn.
The KPD officers were in the valley to gather any of Rodney Ahn’s belongings to return to his family, said D’Attilio.
Officers searched for personal effects while also talking to people they met inside the valley, D’Attilio said.
Efforts were unsuccessful Tuesday to get the names of the officers and nature of the visit confirmed through county sources.
County officials Wednesday did definitively identify the body of the man found dead Sunday in Kalalau Valley as Rodney Ahn.
