The Kapa‘a High School boys soccer team earned the No. 2 seed for the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II state soccer championships, the HHSAA announced Sunday.
With the No. 2 seed, the Kapa‘a Warrior men, reigning Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions, will open its bid for the state Div. II championship Thursday against Makua Lani at the Waipio Peninsular Soccer Complex on O‘ahu.
“It doesn’t matter who we play,” said Todd Fuerte, a coach with the Kapa‘a team, during a conversation at Friday night’s KIF girls basketball game. “If they tell us show up at 10 a.m., we’ll be there to play — whoever shows up, we’re there to play.”
The Warriors will take the field starting at 3 p.m.
Top seed in Div. II is Mid Pacific Institute which will be on the field against Christian Liberty. No. 3 seed went to the Honoka‘a Dragons who go up against McKinley, and Kailua is seeded No. 4, opening against Seabury Hall.
Punahou received the top seed in Division I and will play Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s Pearl City/Moanalua match.
Mililani gets the No. 2 seed and will be up against the winner of the Hilo/Kamehameha game. Baldwin of the Maui Interscholastic League gets the No. 3 seed in Division I and will face the winner of the Iolani/Aiea match.
Championships for the Div. II will start at 5 p.m., Saturday followed by the championship for Div. I at 7 p.m.
