Bernard Rowe
Bernard W. Rowe of Lihu‘e died Jan. 26, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 89. Born on Oct. 19, 1920, in Canada, he was a retired CATV engineer.
He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Rowe; sons Michael Rowe and Timothy Rowe; daughter Susan Rowe; and sister Marie Plimpton.
He is survived by his sister Gertrude Angel of Georgia; Dennis (Susan) Rowe; Robert (Rita) Rowe; Christine (Austin) Taniguchi; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m.; service from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by military honors, on Friday, Feb. 5, at Lihu‘e Lutheran Church.
Casual attire is suggested.
Nancy Valente
Nancy Barbara Valente of Waimea died Jan. 25, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 73. Born Nov. 9, 1937 in Waimea, she was a groundskeeper with DynaElectron.
She was preceded in death by her husband George F. Valente Jr., parents Raymond and Mercy Pantorilla; daughter Darlene J. Balocan; brother Raymond Pantorilla Jr.; and sister Linda Reponte.
She is survived by son George S. Valente III (Lapule) of Waimea; daughters Valerie J. Tanigawa of Koloa, Apryle (Edward) Sarmiento of Kekaha, Lisa (Emong) Millare of Hanapepe and Tracy M. Valente of Hanapepe; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters Emily Pareganog of San Diego, Calif., Dora Habagat of Koloa, Clara Tacub of Kekaha and Shirley Martin of Honolulu; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Mass at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Kekaha.
Casual attire is suggested.

Chuck Chiyuki Matsuwaki of Lihu‘e died Jan. 24, 2010, at his home at age 84. Born on Feb. 18, 1925, in Lawa‘i, he was a banker with First Hawaiian Bank.
He is survived by his wife Kay; son Dennis; brothers Masaru (Masuye) Matsuwaki of Kalaheo, Gary (Lillian) Matsuwaki of Honolulu and Alex Matsuwaki of Honolulu; sister Yoshie (Henry) Sato of Lawa‘i; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., service to follow, on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Lihu‘e Christian Church.
Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Anacleto ‘Sonny’ Battad Jr.
Anacleto Ribuca “Sonny” Battad Jr. of Eugene, Ore., died Jan. 1, 2010, at age 75. Born on May 17, 1934, in Kaua‘i, he retired as a registered nurse in California.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anacleto R. Battad Sr. and Eleanor White Battad, and sister Marvel White Battad.
His is survived by his wife Hester; daughter Analani Battad of O‘ahu; son Anacleto R. “Poki” (Jade) Battad III of Kaua‘i; sisters Arlene Battad Kon and Angie Nora “Nani” Rogers both of Kaua‘i, and Maile Ann “Cookie” (James) Kaopuiki of Moloka‘i; brother Alwin R. L. “Chucky” (Odetta) Battad of Salt Lake City, Utah; maternal aunt Frances White Ohai; five grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m., service to follow, on Feb. 6, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kapa‘a. He will be buried with his mother at the Kapa‘a County Cemetery per his request.
Ronald Jeffery
Ronald Charles Jeffery of Wailua Homesteads died Jan. 25, 2010, at his home at age 58. Born on March 4, 1951, in Hemet, Calif., he was employed by Koa Trading Company.
He is survived by his wife Lisa Jeffery; daughter Erin Jeffery of California; sisters Sharon (Floyd) Butts of California and Laurel McCarthy of California; and mother-in-law Masako Yukimura of Lihu‘e.
Private services were held.

Vivian Youn
Vivian Kapule Youn of Kapa‘a died Jan. 28, 2010, at her home at age 88. Born on May 5, 1921, on Kaua‘i, she was a retired entertainer.
She is survived by her husband Alexander Youn of Wailua; sons Alexander Youn, Gilmore Youn, Avery Youn and James Youn all of Kaua‘i; daughters Avis (Jonathan) Tom of Kaua‘i, Healani Youn of Kaua‘i, Lolita (Ray) Gefroh of Colorado and Alexis (Royden) Niiyama of Washington; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation from 9 a.m., services at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa.

Mara Rita
Mara Leilani Rita of Kalaheo died Jan. 26, 2010, in Honolulu at age 39. Born on Dec. 31, 1970, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was a kitchen helper at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa‘a.
She was preceded in death by her father Patrick Allen Rita.
She is survived by her companion Bill Gonsalves of Anahola; mother Roberta Rita of Kalaheo; daughters Kaylan and Colby Barretto of Kalaheo; sister Sui Yen Rita of Kalaheo; brothers Patrick (Pua) Rita Jr. of Kalaheo, Kevin Rita of Germany and Aaron Rita of Kalaheo; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Mass at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo.

Fumie Alice Akagi of Kalaheo died Jan. 16, 2010, in Lihu‘e at age 83. Born on March 14, 1926, in ‘Ele‘ele, she was a clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband Manabu Akagi.
She is survived by her sons Jesse (Marian) Akagi and Blaine Akagi; grandchildren Brad and Jennifer Akagi; sister Madeline Yamauchi; nieces and nephews.
