KAPA‘A — Volunteers on the East Kaua’i Drug Prevention and Education Team are coordinating the Seventh annual Eastside Family Summit, a large-scale family event that offers free food, social service information, fun activities and entertainment.
The event will be held this Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m., in the courtyard between Kapa‘a High and Kapa‘a Elementary schools.
Attendees are asked to bring a canned or other non-perishable food item to the event to help support the efforts of Hale Ho‘omalu, an organization based on the Eastside, that offers a food pantry twice a week to needy families and individuals.
Over 50 organizations will be on hand with information about the services they provide to families. Activities galore will be offered, entertainment is lined up for the entire afternoon, participants will be eligible to win door prizes, and free food will be provided by local restaurants and businesses.
“The main focus of the family summit is on strengthening families, which is one of the main goals of the Kaua’i Community Drug Response Plan. When our families are strengthened, in turn, our community becomes stronger,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. “Kudos go to the East Kaua’i Drug Prevention and Education Team for their hard work in putting together a fun event that brings families together.”
