LaVerne brings a great depth of knowledge and experience to her job at Hale ‘Opio, along with numerous professional and personal connections with people living in Kaua‘i’s wildly varied communities and throughout the state, according to a press release. LaVerne has been extremely active on the state level of human services, always working to improve services for children, youth and their families and advocating for services they need. Over the years, she has also spearheaded cutting-edge youth programs that challenged both our staff and the youth to learn new skills.
LaVerne’s current job as Program Director means she doesn’t get as much direct contact with the kids in their daily lives, but her priority remains to support the youth and to give them a voice in how their life will go or be planned or what services they need.
