Forget about the olives. Forget about the vermouth. Forget about the whole “shaken, not stirred” thing. All right, keep the last one, only fair. But consider something far sexier than a martini, a chocolate martini.
Kaua‘i Pasta Lounge offers a brand-spanking new drink menu with nine different drinks that will tingle all your senses. The star of this menu is exactly the very first drink, a Chocolate-n-Mint martini served with chocolate caviar. If at this point you doubt fish can lay chocolate eggs, then you never celebrated Easter.
As if it wasn’t enough, Kaua‘i born-and-raised bartender Jenna Kerr most likely will be the one preparing this drink for you.
“It really comes in handy in this profession, that’s for sure,” jokes Jenna, an out-of-this-world woman who earned a psychology degree from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.
Kaua‘i Pasta Lounge opened Dec. 20. The black walls, black leather couches and black marble bar-top contrast with the warm colors of the fine-art hanging, highlighted by dimly lit fixtures. The result is an introspective place with no shortage of great conversations.
Chocolate-n-Mint martini
1 ounce Three Olives Chocolate Vodka
1 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce mint syrup
1/2 ounce lime syrup
Splash of soda water.
Cocoa powder
Fresh mint
1 ounce chocolate caviar (homemade at KP)
Dip the rim of the martini glass on cocoa powder and set it aside. Muddle the mint to get the oils out. Put all ingredients in a shaker full of ice, give it a good waggle, and strain it into the glass. Serve alongside a mini-martini glass filled with about an ounce of chocolate caviar.
