LIHU‘E — Only written tests will be offered at the county’s Driver’s License Division on Wednesday, from 3 to 4 p.m., to allow for the installation of a new identification system. No permits or licenses will be processed during the installation.
Normal operations are expected to resume the following day.
The new ID system, which utilizes biometrics, is being installed throughout the state to comply with a Department of Homeland Security mandate.
The system is designed to integrate fingerprint matching and facial recognition technologies in order to enhance state and national security and reduce identity theft.
