LIHU‘E — From the time Ken D’Attilio of Inter-Island Helicopters decided to get out of the tour business, the company phone hasn’t stopped ringing with inquiries about tours, a company spokesman said.
D’Attilio returns to the island for the start of 2010, and before that Inter-Island will welcome two Hughes 500 helicopters to its fleet, said Lou Walthers, company spokesman.
One of the new birds is expected on-island before the end of this week, and a second one before the end of the month, Walthers said Wednesday.
As soon as Federal Aviation Administration officials check out the new craft, they will be placed in service, he said.
The helicopters can carry up to four passengers plus the pilot, said Walthers, adding that Inter-Island has already begun taking tour reservations for the new year.
Even after D’Attilio announced his decision to get out of the tour business in favor of SAR, firefighting and charter operations, the Inter-Island business telephone line in Hanapepe hasn’t stopped ringing with visitors wishing to make tour reservations, Walthers said.
