LIHU‘E — Property owners who sustained damages to their real property as a result of the recent flood disaster may be eligible for disaster tax relief, a county news release says.
Claims can be made on damages that resulted directly from flood waters overflowing the banks or walls of a nearby river or stream.
Damages due to insufficient drainage, run-off, or ponding, along with personal and other non-structural property including crops are not eligible.
Claim forms are available on the county Web site, www.kauai.gov, and at the Real Property Tax office located in the Kapule Building at the Lihu‘e Civic Center.
The deadline to file a claim for disaster tax relief is Jan. 14, or within 60 days of the disaster.
