The Hawaiian Surfing Federation announced the HSF/YMCA Kaua‘i 2009-10 Contest No. 2, taking place Saturday and Sunday at Pine Trees in Hanalei Bay. HSF has partnered with Hanalei Surf Co./Back door, Progressive Expressions & YMCA to put on this surf event. There will be many talented and local up-and-coming surfers of all ages competing and putting on a show for the Kaua‘i community. Registration and check-in for the event will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday. The first heat will paddle out at 8 a.m. both days for all divisions. The event is open to surfers of all ages, with heats divided up into amateur and pro divisions. Each amateur division entered will cost $35, with the 4-A division also levying a $35 entrance fee. Surfers are permitted to surf multiple divisions but will be charged for each. Entry and membership forms can be obtained on the Web site at www.hsfkauai.com. Spectators are encouraged to come out to the water’s edge to check out the action and support all competing surfers. Surfers, families and community members should feel free to grab a friend and come out for some good surfing at Pine Trees. However, if you can’t make it to the shoreline, pictures and results will be posted on the HSF Web site. Justin Bundshue/Contributed photo
