Angel Valera Sr.
Angel Remulano Valera Sr. of Hanama‘ulu died Nov. 12, 2009, at his home at age 89. Born on April 18, 1920, in Hilo, he provided the island wide delivery service for Kodak and Fuji film.
He is survived by his wife Adelina “Addie”; sons Milton (Debby) Valera of California, Angel (Gilda) Valera Jr. of Lihu‘e and Danilo “Danny” (Suzuko) Valera of Lihu‘e; daughters Angela (Bruce) Morehead of Po‘ipu and Aileen (Marween) Ibanez of Lihu‘e; sister Helen (Alfred) Ramones of Wailua and Asuncion Felix of the Philippines; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 8 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Immaculate Conception Church.
Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Rita Kiyabu
Rita S. Kiyabu of Kapahi died Nov. 10, 2009, at Garden Isle Healthcare at age 85. Born on Sept. 6, 1924, in Kaua‘i, she was a retired LPN nurse from Samuel Mahelona Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents Busuke and Kama Kiyabu, brothers Buzen and Takeo Kiyabu and sisters Hatsuko and Matsuko Kiyabu.
She is survived by her son Michael (Lori Degracia) Kiyabu; sister Theresa Braun; grandchildren Michael K.G. Kiyabu and Lori G.K. (Glen) Balisacan; great-grandchild Norven K. Balisacan.
Visitation at 9:30 a.m., Mass at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church in Kapa‘a. Reception to follow; scattering of ashes will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa.
Isano Honma
Isano Honma of Kaumakani died Nov. 7, 2009, at her home at age 97. Born on Sept. 25, 1912, in Makaweli, she was a tour guide for Kaua‘i Island Tour.
She was preceded in death by her husband Seichi Honma.
She is survived by her sons Charles (Nancy) Honma of Pearl City, Harry Honma of ‘Ele‘ele and Alan (Merlita) Honma of Petersburg, Ala.; daughter Joyce (Melvin) Gushiken of Honolulu; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private services were held.
