LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a man found dead in a car Monday was evidently murdered, an autopsy revealed Tuesday.
Daniel Buonanno, 37, was discovered with apparent injuries at around 7:30 a.m. on Loop Road near the top of Kuamo‘o Road in Wailua Homesteads, a county press release says.
County officials were asked to clarify the cause of death and what details led them to classify the incident as a homicide. County spokesperson Mary Daubert replied, saying KPD would not be releasing any more information on the case Tuesday.
The county also did not answer questions seeking information about any suspects in the case, witnesses to the incident or the vehicle involved.
County officials did not respond to questions asking if Buonanno has an arrest record; his name does not appear in Hawai‘i court listings.
An O‘ahu woman with the same surname said Tuesday that she has no family members on Kaua‘i.
Police officers are continuing their murder investigation, the release says.
KPD is urging anyone with information about any occurrence on Loop Road between Sunday night and Monday morning to call Detective James Kurasaki at 246-8101, Police Dispatch at 241-1711, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
