HANAPEPE — MarieBeth Watanabe, a standout athlete in cross country and softball, reigned over the Waimea High School homecoming festivities, Friday night at Hanapepe Stadium.
Making her entrance atop a convertible, Watanabe was joined by the Menehune Homecoming Court including: Moana Henriques wearing the “Miss Football” banner; Jondelle Aceret-Ipac, donning the crown of “Miss Menehune;” Erin Connelly, escorted by her basketball coach Elton Montemayor as “Miss Spirit;” and Aleina Emayo, wearing the “Miss Victory” sash.
Members of the audience were given two opportunities to view the court as it made its entrance accompanied by not only a walking contingent representing each class, but a float that went along with the “Passport to New Destinations” theme.
Miriam Corpuz represented the Class of 2010, Jazzlyn Pascua rode atop the float for the Class of 2011, Chantelle Carveiro represented the Class of 2012 and Robyn Ijima rode the Class of 2013 float.
During the halftime presentation when each member of the court was escorted by a family member, the Menehune band provided several musical interludes to cap the week of celebration and honor that centered around the 1990 girls softball champions, affectionately labeled the Cinderella Team, for it being a source of inspiration to students and the community that talented athletes from Waimea High School are capable of achieving big things.
