Isamu Higa
Isamu “Higgins” Higa of Kapa‘a died Oct. 4, 2009, at home at age 84. Born on Aug. 25, 1925, on Kaua‘i, he was a World War II veteran and retired from Hawai‘i Air National Guard.
He is survived by his son Kevin (Udom) Higa of New Mexico; daughter Sherlyn (Irwin) Haraguchi of Kilauea; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers Tetsuo and Yoshio of Kaua‘i and Hirose of California; sisters Akiko Ebisui of Honolulu, Sachiko Morimoto of California and Fumiko Chow of Kaua‘i; caregivers Michael Manguchei and Ford Sueoka; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 10 a.m., services at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e.
Aloha attire is suggested and the family graciously declines flowers.

Esther “Essie” Marie Heen of Kilauea died Oct. 6, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 73. Born on Dec. 2, 1935, in Kilauea, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her mother Martha (Alapai) Caculitan; brothers Ambrose Worthington and Paul Alapai; sisters Martha “Worthington” Ormord and Rose (Doiron) Ponimoi.
She is survived by her sons Temujine “Jin” Heen, Tai (Darcy) Heen of Kaua‘i, Pono (Napua) Heen and Harvey Heen; daughter Tandra Heen of O‘ahu; sisters Flora “Laie” Iseri, Miriam “Lahapa” (William) Texeira of Barrow, Ala., Frances “Leinaala” Kaneakua, Rosemary “Leialoha” Millarich of Barrow, Ala. and Lucille “Leimomi” Hew of Kaua‘i; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.

Dorothy Texeira of Puhi died Oct. 19, 2009, at her residence at age 86. Born on Sept. 5, 1923, in Lihu‘e, she was a retired janitor with Grove Farm.
She was preceded in death by her husband David Texeira, son Robert “Bobby” Texeira, daughter Geraldine Girald; son-in-law Herman Bacle.
She is survived by her son David “Kimo” (Flo) Texeira of Puhi; daughters Donna Texeira and Shanlyne (Eddie) Resinto both of Puhi; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation from 8 to 10 a.m., service at 10 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial at the church cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Motomi Shigeta
Motomi Shigeta of Kapa‘a died Oct. 17, 2009, at his home at age 86. Born on Jan. 5, 1923, in Moloa‘a, he was an auto mechanic with the County of Kaua‘i and a member of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Regiment.
He was preceded in death by his son Ross M. Shigeta.
He is survived by his wife Esther Shigeta; son Galen (Jamelyn) Shigeta of Kapa‘a; grandsons Kaili Panui, Travis and Tanner Shigeta; brother Yukio (Alice) Shigeta of Lihu‘e; sisters Mitsue Takamatsu of Puhi; Matsuko Doi of Hanama‘ulu and Kikuno Wakumoto of Kapa‘a; sister-in-law Fumiko Shigeta of California; nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., service at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Kapa‘a Jodo Mission. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Joanne Snow-Smith
Joanne Snow-Smith of Kapa‘a died Oct. 14, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 83. Born on Nov. 1, 1924, in Baltimore, Md., she was a professor emeritus of Art History at the University of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her son Henry Smith III, her first husband Robert Smith and her second husband Robert Edward Willstadter.
She is survived by her children Jaye Darby, Constance Bagley, Cynthia Bloom and Robert Smith Jr.; partner John Nakamura; stepdaughters Megan Pottorff and Karen Willstadter; five grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Viewing at 3 p.m., service at 4 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 30, at All Saints Church in Kapa‘a. Burial immediately to follow at All Saints Church.

Anna Thiele
Anna Faye Thiele of Kailua died Oct. 6, 2009, in Kailua at age 80. Born on June 14, 1929, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son Peter James; daughters Kathy Green, Heather Wood and Teanna Shanahan; step-sons Pat, John, Mark and Chris Thiele; brother Lindsay “Tony” Faye Jr.; sisters Mary Reinhardt and Linda Collins; aunt Anna Sloggest of Lihu‘e; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service at 11 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 23, at Waimea United Church of Christ on Kaua‘i. Reception to follow at Waimea Plantation Cottages.

Hoanostakio “Brother Ray” Balai of Kapa‘a died Oct. 8, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 49. Born on Sept. 17, 1960, in Honolulu, he was a warehouse personnel with Rosa’s Supply.
He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Balai.
He is survived by his mother Karen Bilermo; stepmother Debbie Brede-Balai; brothers Gilbert (Tweety) Balai, Brady Balai, Joseph (Iraina) Balai Martin, Earl (Tina) Balai and Thomas (Rayna) Balai all of Kapa‘a; sisters Antoinette Balai and Marie Mcshayne of O‘ahu; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Paustino “Tino” Lopez Agustin of Lihu‘e died Oct. 16, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 86. Born on Feb. 7, 1923, in Lihu‘e, he retired from McBryde Sugar Company as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife Flordelina; son Timothy (Angela) Agustin of Lihu‘e; daughter Darlene (Lighten) Nagao of Lihu‘e; sister Roselina (Matias) Arizo of Puhi; brother Potenciano “Pat” (Josefina) Agustin of Puhi; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Patrick Eugene Tuohy of Princeville died Oct. 17, 2009, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 64. Born on Feb. 6, 1945, in Battle Creek, Mich., he worked for Wyndham Vacation Ownership.
He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Edward Tuohy, mother Dorothy Tuohy and brother Michael Tuohy.
He is survived by his daughters Heather Devin of Princeville and Erin Freeman of Las Vegas; sister Barbara Ives and five grandchildren.
