LIHU‘E — Kristin Kawamura and Caley Caires each fired hat tricks to lead the Lihu‘e Strikers to an 8-0 win over the Hanapepe Pink Panthers, Tuesday.
Ayzlin Kealoha-Albarado and Kaylin Kawamura, Kristin’s twin sister, each netted a goal to round out the win in one of three American Youth Soccer Organization, Region 940 Under 12 Girls playoff games.
Two of the playoff games, both Under 12 Girls matches, were played at the North Vidinha fields, and a third match between Koloa (Batteiger) and Waimea (Abadilla) was scheduled to play at the Kalawai field.
Scores from that game were not available at press time.
Ashley Lucas netted two goals and Adrienne Graycochea scored a goal as the Lihu‘e Clovers edged out the Lihu‘e Sour Skittles, 3-0 in the second match played at the North Vidinha field.
The Tuesday games mark the start of playoffs for the AYSO, Region 940, which will culminate with the Will Veeck tournament at Vidinha Stadium on Nov. 9-12.
During the Will Veeck tournament, championship teams from the AYSO, Region 940 will meet their counterparts from the AYSO, Region 941.
With the results of the Tuesday Under 12 Girls matches, the Lihu‘e Clovers will face off against the Lihu‘e Strikers, Thursday at the North Vidinha fields.
The winner of that game will advance to face the winner of the Koloa/Waimea game.
The Hanapepe Pink Panthers will square off against the Lihue Sour Skittles on Thursday with the winner advancing to meet the loser of the Koloa/Waimea match in the bracket’s consolation play.
Four playoff games are on tap for Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium starting at 9 a.m. as the Under 12 Boys and Girls start their respective playoffs. The Under 14 Boys also play Saturday.
Finals for the Under 12 Girls will play Nov. 2. The Under 12 Girls kick off 4:30 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium with the Under 14 Girls starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Under 12 Boys finals will play Nov. 3 at Hanapepe Stadium starting at 4:30 p.m. The Under 14 Boys finals kick off starting at 6:30 p.m.
