LIHU‘E — Two people were injured in a traffic crash Friday afternoon after one vehicle hydroplaned on standing rainwater on Rice Street near the entrance to the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club, a county press release states.
Drivers of two vehicles were taken to Wilcox Hospital via ambulance. The extent of their injuries is not known. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
According to a preliminary report, the driver of a Ford F-150 truck was travelling up Rice Street from the Kaua‘i Marriott at around 1:55 p.m. when the vehicle hydroplaned in the water that remained on the roadway from a downpour minutes earlier.
The truck then spun around into the oncoming lane and collided with a Hyundai sedan that was heading in the opposite direction, the release says.
Rice Street between Mokoi Road and the Marriott entrance was closed following the crash and was reopened at around 2:35 p.m.
