LIHU‘E — Sherri Cubangbang (130, 181, 185), Kelsey Cadiente (138, 129, 135) and Raevyn Ibia (137, 116, 120) led the Kaua‘i High School girls to a 1,948 pinfall and first place at the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling matches, Saturday.
Kapa‘a’s Aaron Belmonte rolled a 200-game, his first of this KIF season, to help lead the Kapa‘a boys to a 2,331 pinfall and first place for the boys at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
Belmonte rolled his 200 in the second game, following a 186 lead-in during game one, and finished the day on a 155 roll. Teammate Troy Wong opened with a 197, but dropped to 148, 144 in the second and third games, respectively.
The Waimea boys, ending with a 2,276 pinfall, saw James Paleracio roll his first 200-game, a 205 in game three, to lead the Menehune challenge. Paleracio was followed by Dominic Palabay getting his season-best 199 in the opening game before ending with rolls of 144 and 140.
Kaua‘i boys finished third on a 2,187 pinfall led by Brad Russell (145, 183, 139), Michael Tabata (121, 137, 199) and Russell Cubangbang (146, 139, 124).
Island School boys finished on a 1,666 pinfall led by Lawrence Miller (101, 120, 165), Kyle Lee (133, 107, 112) and Daniel Miller (103, 96, 121).
Following the fourth week of KIF matches, Waimea’s Dominic Palabay holds the individual lead with 1,536 pins dropped over nine games for a 170.67 average. Randy Iloreta of Kapa‘a follows with 1,519 pins dropped in nine games for a 168.78 average.
Michael Tabata of Kaua‘i leads the Raider boys with 1,471 pins dropped in nine games for a 163.44 average, fourth in the individual standings. Daniel Miller of Island School holds an 1,169 pinfall over nine games for a 129.89 average.
Waimea’s girls finished second in Saturday’s round with an 1,892 pinfall led by Bronte Acosta (123, 131, 145), Lacie Montemayor (138, 139, 123) and Arlene Valmoja (125, 112, 112). Montemayor rolled a season-best 139 in game two.
The Kapa‘a girls finished just 22 back of the Menehune ladies at 1,870, the Warriors getting led by Joanna Chang (158, 160, 146), Mahea Hanie-Grace (144, 146, 110), Kira Nakamura (130, 100, 118) and Ta‘ashi Napoleon (143, 121, 117).
The Island School girls saw Megan Perius (118 109, 98) and Samantha Barry (55, 58, 63) combine for a 501 pinfall.
Sherri Cubangbang of Kaua‘i leads the individual girls with a 1,476 pinfall over nine games for a 164.0 average followed by Kelsey Cadiente (Kau) with a 1,352 pinfall over nine games for a 150.22 average. Joanna Chang of Kapa‘a is in third with a 1,346 pinfall over nine games for a 149.56 average followed by Waimea’s Bronte Acosta with a 1,325 pinfall for nine games and a 147.22 average. Island School’s Perius is at 991 pinfall for a 110.11 average.
The KIF bowling season continues Saturday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center starting at 2 p.m.
