LIHU‘E —Kapa‘a Eagle Bryce Dato broke open for a four-yard touchdown with 30 second remaining to give the JPW Kapa‘a Eagles a 6-2 edge over the Lihu‘e Patriots.
Billed as the game of the week, the Eagles JPW emerge as the sole leader of the standings with the win in the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League.
Lalane Corpuz, president of the Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association, said this year, the JPW winner from the Kaua‘i league has a chance to participate in the Nationals game in Florida.
Once the Kaua‘i title is secure, Corpuz said the Kaua‘i JPW winner advances to a playoff game on O‘ahu, and if successful, will advance to the Nationals in Florida.
Alika Ventura had two 9-yard touchdown runs and Brock DeCosta had a 91-yard interception runback for touchdown in the Koloa JPW’s 19-0 win over the Hanapepe Colts JPW.
The Koloa win puts it in a tie with the Lihu‘e Patriot JPW at 1-1 and two points each. Kapa‘a Eagles JPW leads the division at 2-0 and four points. Kekaha, enjoying a bye, Saturday, is 0-1.

But Hanapepe Colts’ Henry Delos Reyes connected with Clysen Agrade for a 79-yard pass play for touchdown at the 1:44 mark.
The scoring flurry continued when Andrade answered on a 45-yard touchdown pass to Kendall Rivera with just 33 ticks showing in the half for the 20-6 halftime score.
