PO‘IPU — The Pro Ice came in handy after judging the chili Sunday.
Wanda Shibata, a judge for the chili cookoff, found the new therapy wrap being distributed by Douglas Muraoka of Koloa at the Ranch Rodeo, benefiting the American Cancer Society.
“Ten percent of what people buy today will go toward the ACS,” Muraoka said.
In addition to helping the ACS, consumers of the ice wrap were treated to a special introductory price by Muraoka who was just named distributor for the Pro Ice product line that has been part of baseball for almost two decades.
“We have something for every part of the body,” said Marc Spector of California who was finalizing Muraoka’s set up as a local distributor. “This is legal ice, and it’s here on Kaua‘i.”
This might have been the product members of the Mail Express event could have used as spectators and other team members were treated to some excitement when Kamoe Refamonte’s steed became spooked by the mailbag, rising on its back while Refamonte jumped off and worked to calm the spooked horse.
Mary Williamson of the ACS said tickets for the Hoedown for Hope on Oct. 3 were on sale at the rodeo that was being held to benefit the ACS.
“Almost everyone here has someone special they are rodeo-ing for,” Williamson said. “They created special trophies and belt buckles for the event winners as well. Almost everything goes to help the fight against cancer.”
Williamson added that winners from the Sunday rodeo will be announced during the gala at Kilohana, and the trophies will be presented to the winners at that event as well.
“This year, we’ll be opening early from 5 p.m.,” Williamson said. “We’ll still have the train rides, The Happy Enchilada Band will be on the entertainment schedule, and even the Koloa Rum Company is working hard to try and get open by the Oct. 3 event.”
“Jocelyn Abreu organized this Ranch Rodeo where people from the different ranches get together and have a competitive rodeo,” Williamson said. “It’s not only a fun event, it helps the cancer society.”
