LIHU‘E —The Westside Falcons might not have had enough players to field an Under 14 team, but having the skills added to the GIFC-14 helped the orangeshirts to a 9-0 showing over the KSC-Blazing Angels, Sunday.
“We didn’t have enough players to form a U14 team, so the boys are playing with GIFC,” said Jane Garma, one of the Falcons’ team moms.
That game was part of the Kaua‘i Soccer Season that opened its fall season at the North Vidinha fields.
“We’ve got 18 teams playing from Under 10 through the Under 15 age groups,” said Kevin Devitt, KSA commissioner. “It’s a little less than last year, but we’ve got good play, and the kids are having fun.”
Shane Takeuchi, Kody Gardner, and Shayden Duldulao led the Under 10 Westside Falcons to a 3-0 showing over the KSC-Blazing Angels in the first of three games in that age group.
“Those girls are tough,” said Devitt. “They play the ball well and are aggressive on the field.”
The Westside Pride wrapped up a 7-0 win over Team Chikara and Pohaku was a 9-0 winner over Extreme Strikers in the remaining U10 games.
Lokahi got two goals each from Aleigha Scovel and Shyla Taniguchi-Simbre in its 4-0 win over the GIFC-12 in the first of three games in that age group.
Kaua‘i Sparks came out a 3-0 winner over Team Motiv-8 and the Westside Falcons edged the Kilauea Kilas 1-0 to round out the U12 division.
Kainalu Gandia peppered the field with four goals to lead the Kapa‘a Warriors to an 8-3 edge over the Hawaiian Heat in the first of two U14 games. The second match saw GIFC shut down the KSC-Blazing Angels, 9-0.
A coed team, the GIFC-BU16 held off the challenge of Ha‘aheo Kaua‘i, 6-4 in the sole match in the U15 division.
The public is invited to view the matches that continue this Sunday at the North Vidinha fields starting at noon.
There is no admission charge.
