David Saka of Waipahu and Allisen Corpuz of Honolulu finished with six-under-par scores to win their respective divisions at the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association Turtle Bay Junior Classic, Sunday.
Corpuz and Saka, playing in the Girls 13-14, and Boys 15-18 flights, respectively, finished with identical scores (70-68-138) to win their divisions at the Turtle Bay golf course.
Following Corpuz in the 13-14 Girls division, Ciera Min of Hilo carded a 147 (76-71) to nail the second berth just a stroke ahead of Mariel Galdiano of Kapolei (72-76-148).
Min teamed with Scott Yamashita to finish in a two-way tie for third place at the Mixed Championship last Sunday at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course, that team being relegated to fourth place after scorecard playoff gave third place to the team of Reo Saito and Eimi Koga.
Ryan Kuroiwa of Aiea finished four strokes off the pace in the 15-18 Boys division with a 142 (72-71) for second place honors below Saka.
Kuroiwa came back with a three-under par 69, Sunday, to edge out Corey Kozuma of Kaneohe who came up a stroke short of Kuroiwa at 143 (72-71) for third place.
Hee Sue Condry of Honolulu topped the 15-18 Girls division with a one-under par 143 (71-72) to finish six strokes ahead of Alice Kim, also of Honolulu, in second (77-72-149). Condry teamed with Brian Lee to finish fourth in the Mixed Team Championship last week at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.
Rose Huang of Laie (82-76-158) was three strokes better than Hana Furuichi of Honolulu (79-82-161) after coming back with a strong 76, Sunday, to take the 11-12 Girls division. Kristin Le of Aiea (82-82-164) finished third in that division.
John Sohn of Honolulu finished with a 143 (70-73) to earn top honors in the 11-12 Boys division, 10 strokes better than Sian Rogers, also of Honolulu (76-77-153). Desmond Mello of Kaneohe filled in the third place berth two strokes back of Mello (79-76-155).
John Oda of Honolulu finished with a five-under par 139 (69-70) to capture the 13-14 Boys trophy over PJ Samiere of Kailua, O‘ahu, who ended the day one-over par 145 (73-72). Andy Okita of Mililani followed a stroke back (73-73-146) for third place in the division.
Puakea Golf Course is the site for the next tournament this weekend when junior golfers tee off for the Kaua‘i Junior Tour Series, Saturday and Sunday.
The Junior Tour Series is comprised of three tournaments in two days. Day One is one tournament, Day Two is one tournament, and the Day One and Day Two are combined for a 36-hole tournament with all three tournaments counting for points.
The first group tees off starting at 11 a.m., Saturday. Sunday tee times start at 7 a.m.
