A parade through Kilauea town, from the school to the ball park, followed by a picnic in the park, are some of the planned highlights of the Fourth Annual Kilauea Day: Picnic in the Park.
The event is Saturday, Sept. 12, starting with the costume parade at 10 a.m., and nonstop entertainment at the park to 5 p.m., all hosted by the Kilauea Neighborhood Association, according to a press release.
Children are encouraged to decorate their bicycles for the parade, which has prizes for best wagon, best cycle (bi, tri and uni), best pet and animal, and best overall.
Kilauea seniors will judge winners when the parade reaches the park.
At the park, there will be a cake walk, shave ice, food and drinks, four waterslides (open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), old-time plantation games like greased pole and tire toss, plus a dunking booth, baseball-toss booth, silent auction, raffle and more.
Entertainment includes Kilauea Social Club, Sam Mahuiki and Friends, Halau o Hanalei, Kilauea Seniors, Halau Palaihiwa o Kaipuwai, and Mike Latief and Friends.
Participants include Office of the Mayor, County of Kaua‘i, Shriners International, Kapa‘a High School Marching Band, Kilauea School and Kaua‘i Pacific School.
