KKCR announces “Be Heard!” town hall meetings
For years, KKCR has invited callers and guests to its studio to express viewpoints, opinions, concerns, and ideas on a wide range of topics. Now, KKCR has decided to go out into the community by launching a series of town hall meetings covering the Westside, South Shore, Eastside, and North Shore of the island.
By helping community members share their concerns and ideas, KKCR plans to facilitate a dialog where individuals can gain insight from each other and can leverage the resource of Community Radio to reach across neighborhood boundaries to help each other. In addition, the meetings are intended to help identify the common concerns and problems of many that can then be summarized and given the strength of a single voice to appeal to government officials, businesses, and other organizations that can help.
Initially, the meetings will be recorded and videotaped for airing on KKCR and on a specially created “Be Heard” Web site (www.kkcr.org/beheard). This Web site provides links to a Twitter account, a blog account, a short economic survey, and a special e-mail account — all established to provide multiple ways for community members to participate in the discussion and to “Be Heard.”
Over time, KKCR plans to hold additional meetings on a variety of topics to be decided by the community, and which will be broadcast live rather than simply recorded.
