A two-person ultralight crashed Saturday afternoon in a valley north of Burns Field on the Westside, county spokesperson Mary Daubert said.
The pilot and passenger, who became separated after the aircraft went down, were found Saturday evening. One was extricated from the valley, but conditions delayed the removal of the other individual, Daubert said, noting the high winds.
Rescue specialists were still with that person at press time.
Emergency crews responded to the call at 3:32 p.m. Three rescue specialists aboard Air-1 were involved in the effort, Daubert said.
The Coast Guard reportedly assisted from the sea via a tracking beacon.
Another rescue effort is expected to take place at dawn today, Daubert said. A hunter was reportedly injured in Koke‘e, but due to the other rescue there was a lack of personnel available to respond.
