Alan Yamagata
Alan Yamagata has been named Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course’s Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2009.
Yamagata currently holds the position of assistant mechanic in the Maintenance Department. He was nominated for the award by his supervisor, CJ Rebb.
Po‘ipu Bay’s quarterly employee awards are based on nominations made by department supervisors, commending employees in the areas of attendance, conscientiousness, attitude, efficiency, innovation, guest service and aloha spirit.
Hilo Hattie’s new management team
Hilo Hattie recently announced its new management team under the company’s new owner, Donald B.S. Kang. Kang acquired Pomare, Ltd., dba Hilo Hattie, on June 19.
The new team consists of:
• David Jung, a long-time business associate of Donald Kang, has been appointed executive vice president — general counsel and corporate secretary.
• Craig Bingham, executive vice president and chief financial officer will continue to oversee the administrative departments. he will also serve as corporate treasurer.
• Carlton Kramer has returned to Hilo Hattie as the executive vice president of sales and marketing. Kramer’s responsibilities include advertising, public relations, promotions and the negotiations of travel industry agreements.
• Mark Storfer has been appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer and will manage operations and store expansions.
• Terri Funakoshi, executive vice president of merchandising has been with the company since 2001. Funakoshi’s responsibilities include all of merchandising, buying, product development, manufacturing, retail planning and corporate sales and uniforms.
• Bruce Bonar, vice president of IT and E-Commerce, is responsible for all IT functions including planning and executing all current and future system needs. He will also launch the new Web site early fall 2009.
• Chad Dias will continue as vice president of Logistics and Facilities. He will manage Hilo Hattie’s warehouse, distribution, visual and store facilities.
Mark Phillipson
Mark Phillipson has joined Syngenta’s Hawai‘i operations as general manager to lead the company’s extensive Corn and Soy Product Development and Supply Chain facilities in Hawai‘i. Philipson’s position was created to support the expansion of Syngenta’s facilities and workforce on O‘ahu and Kaua‘i, which is comprised of more than 400 employees.
Phillipson joins Syngenta from Merck & Co., Inc. where he held senior positions for more than 20 years. Phillipson has a B.S. degree in agriculture business management from Cal State Poly and an M.S. degree in health professional education from Western University of Health Sciences.
