With 42 events for all ages and up to seven competitors in each event, there was plenty of action on display.
At the end of the day, the following teams took home trophies for their performances: Kawaikini Canoe Club finished first in the “A” Division, consisting of teams that entered between one and six events. Kawaikini finished the day with 22 points earned in six events.
The “AA” Division was for teams entering between seven and 12 events. Coming out on top was Kilohana Canoe Club, racking up 71 points in 12 events. Niumalu received the second-place trophy after compiling 54 points in 10 events.
The “AAA” Division consisted of teams entering between 13 and 20 of the events. Pu‘uwai Canoe Club took first place with 118 points in 20 events.
The “AAAA” Division had the most active participants, with teams competing in at least 21 of the 42 events. Hanalei Canoe Club, familiar with its home terrain, came out the victor, tallying 300 points with racers in all but one event. Namolokama Canoe Club took second place with 223 points in 33 races. Kaiola Canoe Club rounded out the top three with 187 points in 27 events.
The winners of each event in their respective division will now advance to compete at states on Aug. 1 in Hilo.
