KOLOA — The Hapa Restoration Committee invites all interested to a Hapa Trail walk today at 9 a.m.
All interested will gather around 8:45 a.m. at the beginning of the historic trail near St. Raphael’s Catholic church at the end of Hapa Road in Koloa.
The two-hour round-trip walk will include refreshments at the south end of trial, near Po‘ipu Road.
According to a press release, the walk will be an opportunity to view the grading, grubbing and dynamiting being conducted on the land (the Village at Po‘ipu subdivision) adjacent to the east wall of Hapa Trail.
Also available for view are the proposed sites of wall destruction and breaching of the trail, for automobile crossings, currently permitted by the Kaua‘i Planning Department.
Participants will learn more about the proposed restoration and alignment issues relating to historic Hapa Trail.
Louie Abrams, president of the Koloa Community Association, and Koloa resident Ted Blake will discuss trail alignment and rock-wall restoration, the historic Koloa Field System, as well as zoning ordinances regarding Hapa Trail and the surrounding properties.
