The Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association will be hosting the 2009 Callaway Junior World Qualifier this Saturday and Sunday at the Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club.
Coming on the heels of the Chica Ishii Golf Tournament for Kaua‘i Junior Golfers, many of these golfers will be participating in the qualifier, said Ron Peeren, the Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association tournament chair.
The Kaua‘i golfers will be joined by other junior golfers from around the state at this qualifier that will feature 7-8 Age Division through 15-17 Age Division.
The age divisions, pars and yardages include 7-8 Boys & Girls and 9-10 Girls, Par 58, 2,410 yards; 9-10 Boys, Par 62, 3,364 yards; 11-12 Boys, par 72, 6,042 yards; 11-12 Girls, par 72, 5,538 yards; 13-14 Boys, par 72, 6,563 yards; 13-14 Girls, par 72, 6,042 yards; 15-18 Boys, par 72, 6,969 yards; 15-18 Girls, par 72, 6,042 yards.
Golfers will be competing for four spots in the 7-8 Boys and one spot for the 7-8 Girls; five spots each for the 9-10 Boys and Girls; three spots each for the 11-12 Boys and Girls; five spots each for the 13-14 Boys and Girls; and six spots each for the 15-17 Boys and Girls.
The 2009 Callaway Junior World Championships will be held from July 13-17 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in California.
Alina Ching of Honolulu topped the 13-14 Girls Age Division and Allisen Corpuz, also of Honolulu, finished second in the 9-10 Girls Age Division.
