Sara Funtanilla, 7, Kiani Gandeza, 10, and Kaimana Gandeza, 13, posted perfect meets in the first day of the Mokihana Aquatics timed trials, Saturday at the Waimea Pool.
Funtanilla posted improvements in five of the five events she participated in with the biggest improvement coming in the 100 Individual Medley. She finished that race at an unofficial time of 2:15.36 for an improvement of 30.80 over her previous swim.
In her outing, Funtanilla finished with three Hawai‘i “B” times, those coming in the 25 Butterfly on a 26.40 swim, the 25 Backstroke (27.59) and the 50 Free (48.64).
She followed that performance with a gain of 25.14 in the 100 Freestyle event where she stopped the clock at 1:44.89.
Kiani Gandeza posted her best swim in the 200 Individual Medley where she shaved 18.05 off her previous swim on a 5:04.22 showing and followed that with a 14.31 improvement in the 100 Backstroke event where she stopped the clock at 2:13.49.
Kaimana Gandeza finished perfect in three events with his biggest improvement coming in the 200 IM where he clocked in at 3:22.22 for a 12.64 improvement over his previous showing. He followed that with a 1:37.75 swim in the 100 Backstroke for a 5.98 improvement.
He also posted a Hawai‘i “B” time in the 50 Free where he stopped the clock at 38.88 for a .18 improvement.
Jame Wilmot, 11, finished with a near-perfect meet, improving in four of five events, the biggest being the 200 IM where he shaved 45.03 off his previous swim, stopping the clock at 3:45.65, Saturday in Waimea.
Kayla Ishida, 11, had a notable day with three of five improved swims, her performance in the 50 Butterfly stopping the clock at 35.52 for a 9.63 improvement and a Hawai‘i “AA” time. She also collected two Hawai‘i “B” times in the 100 Back (1:35.33) for a .37 improvement and the 100 Free (1:21.66).
The time trials conclude today at the Kapa‘a pool with warm-ups starting at 8:30 a.m. and the first event scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
Allaya Pompa, 8, also posted four improvements in five events, her best showing coming in the 100 Free where she stopped the clock at 1:55.15 for a 17.57 improvement. She also finished with two Hawai‘i “B” times in the 25 Butterfly (26.23) and the 25 Backstroke (28.29).
Kaitlyn Jarry, 15, finished the day with two Hawai‘i “A” times and three Hawai‘i “B” times, her best performance coming in the 200 Butterfly where she stopped the clock at 2:37.49 for a 10.77 improvement and a “AA” time. Her two “A” times came in the 200 Breaststroke (1:09.23) and the 200 IM (4:43.80).
Kaleiu‘i Hosaka, 10, posted three first place finishes with improvements in two events, her best coming in the 100 Freestyle where she stopped the clock at 1:26.25 for a 9.09 improvement and a Hawai‘i “A” time. She picked up a Hawai‘i “AA” time in the 50 Breast on a 50.40 swim for a .35 improvement.
