PUHI — A 58-year-old Anahola man was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital and later flown to The Queen’s Medical Center Sunday evening after sustaining serious injuries while riding a motorcycle, a county news release said Monday.
His passenger, a 34-year-old Princeville woman, was taken to Wilcox where she is in good condition.
Frank Medeiros Jr. is currently in stable condition at Queen’s.
The pair were on a motorcycle heading east on Kaumuali‘i Highway in Puhi at around 7:05 p.m. when the motorcycle was struck by a pick-up truck making a left turn onto Nani Street.
The driver of the pick-up truck was Antonio Bernabe, 68, of Puhi.
According to witnesses, Medeiros and his passenger, who requested anonymity, were thrown from the motorcycle.
They were both taken to Wilcox for treatment.
Medeiros was later transferred to Queen’s for further treatment.
Bernabe was not injured.
The eastbound lane of Kaumuali‘i Highway was re-routed to Puhi Road for some 30 minutes after the accident while the investigation was being conducted.
