PO’IPU — Lifeguards at Po‘ipu Beach Park on Sunday closed nearby Brennecke’s Beach on the South Shore due to a shark sighting, according to the Kaua‘i Police Department.
A six- to seven-foot shark was sighted when lifeguards at Po’ipu Beach were patrolling the area. They spotted the shark at around 2 p.m. and posted a shark sighting sign at Brennecke’s Beach, a county news release states.
Police dispatch was notified about the shark and state Department of Land and Natural Resources officials were contacted since Brennecke’s falls under state jurisdiction.
