The ink had hardly dried on the last feature we did on Kaua‘i High School graduate Miki Ueoka of Lihu‘e, when she garnered more honors earlier this week.
The Santa Clara University sophomore, by virtue of her three victories this year the program’s most successful individual women’s golfer ever, accepted more honors when she was named the West Coast Conference’s Women’s Golf Player of the Month for March.
It is the second straight honor Ueoka, daughter of Linda and Richard Ueoka. She earned the same accolade for the month of February.
Ueoka earned her third career individual title at the Sacramento State Invitational on March 24. Her finished helped the Broncos to their second team crown of the season. Ueoka shot 146 in the two-day event with rounds of 75 and 71.
A heavy favorite going into the 2009 Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, Ueoka earned her second career individual title as she finished seven-under par 209 (68-69-72) and posted the two best rounds ever by a Broncos on the first day. In the third in final round, she was an even 72. Her medalist finish was ahead of four nationally ranked players.
Earlier in the month, she finished second at the UC Riverside Lady Braveheart. She was just one stroke behind the winner. In the fall, Ueoka medaled at the Boise State Bronco Invitational with back-to-back rounds of 70.
Santa Clara, which has three Hawai‘i golfers on its roster, returns to action on April 13-14 at the West Coast Conference Championships at Hiddenbrook Golf Course in Vallejo, Calif., according to information from the university.
