Parents of Koloa Early School are preparing for this year’s fundraising event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. April 25 at Koloa Neighborhood Center. Rob Lansdell will conduct a “How to Raise a Money Smart Child” seminar in conjunction with a silent auction and raffle drawing. The seminar is designed as a collaboration between Edward Jones and the Money Savvy Generation, an organization devoted to children’s financial literacy.
Raffle tickets for the drawing are $5 and can be purchased from any parent at Koloa Early School. Raffle prizes include resort stays, rounds of golf, spa treatments, boating adventures, ATV tours, dining certificates and much more. Prize winners do not need to be present to win as they will be contacted by a parent volunteer after the drawing. All proceeds from the raffle and silent auction will go to the school’s tuition assistance program.
The seminar will begin promptly at 4:30 p.m. and will last approximately 20 minutes. Additional activities at the two-hour event include a food booth, prize center, silent auction, music and plenty of games for the children. This seminar is free for children ages 18- years and under. A $5 raffle ticket will provide entrance for adults over 18. Space is limited. To make a child’s reservation call Cheryle Tanaka, 332-7469. Each child who RSVP’s for the event will receive the Money Savvy Pig Piggy Bank, along with a financial tools workbook.
The centerpiece of the program is the Money Savvy Pig Piggy Bank with four chambers, one each for saving, investing, donating and spending.
“The seminar is a great way to provide parents and grandparents the tools to teach children the basics of handling money, an essential lifetime skill that will become more important as they get older,” Lansdell said in a press release.
“As business leaders, we share the collective responsibility to help our youth avoid the pitfalls that financial illiteracy brings,” said Jim Weddle, Managing Partner. “We want to help parents and grandparents teach children the skills of basic personal finance so they are empowered to take control of their financial lives and, in turn, their futures.”
