Lihu‘e’s Ashlee Jimenez is currently ranked No. 1 in the state for the Girls 400 Meter Dash as of last week, as reported by kautech.com
Jimenez, a senior of Kamehameha Schools Kapalama, is atop the leaderboard with a time of 1:02, a time she posted late February at a meet at ’Iolani. Sofia Freeman of King Kekaulike is just behind Jimenez with a time of 1:02.32.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation has a good number of athletes represented in the top 10 in the state.
Kaua‘i’s Kathleen Cadiente is ranked No. 2 in two individual events (Girls 100 Meter Dash and Long Jump) and is a member of the defending champion Girls 4×100 Meter Relay team, currently ranked No. 2 also. The KIF has five athletes in the top 20 for the Girls 100 Meter Dash (Kaua‘i’s Cadiente, Kelsey Cadiente, Jessica Iwata, Reanna Javina and Waimea’s Charleen Miguel).
Waimea’s Jayme Jacinto, as of last Wednesday, was ranked No. 2 in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.61, but on Friday at the Mayor’s Meet, improved on her time greatly.
Jacinto clocked in at 16.37. Although that was her personal best time, it isn’t enough to take over the top spot held by Castle’s Cecilla Durocher (16.1).
Miguel is ranked ninthe in the Girls 200 Meter Dash and Caralyn Broyles is ninth in the Girls 1,500 Meter Run.
Island School’s Pierce Murphy ran a personal best 4:23.77 in the Boys 1,500 Meter Run which should get him to the top spot. Prior to the Mayor’s Meet, Murphy was ranked No. 2 behind Pac-Five’s Matt Nakamoto (4:24). Murphy also ran a 9:35.18 in the Boys 3,000 Meter Run, a race that he also trailed Nakamoto in. This time should put him ahead of Nakamoto. Nakamoto’s most recent times were not posted as of press time.
Kaua‘i’s Canaan Bernard, as of last week, was ranked No. 3 in the Boys 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.00. Waimea’s Torrey was ranked No. 7 in the Boys 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.63. On Friday, Santiago improved on that to post a 23.50. He is also ranked in the Long Jump (20 feet, 4 1/2 inches) and the Triple Jump (39 feet 10 inches).
Teammate Malcolm Carter is ranked No. 3 in the Triple Jump (41 feet, 10 1/4 inches) and No. 6 in the Long Jump (20 feet 1/4 inch).
